The club method

Read privately. Belong publicly only when you choose.

Lantern & Spine has two connected layers: open guided reading journeys and an optional member Society.

01

Enter a reading path

Choose an Adult Reading Society or Young Readers Circle journey in English or Spanish.

02

Read one room at a time

Use chapter ranges, spoiler-aware prompts, private margins, and reentry cues at your own pace.

03

Browse the Society

Discover books, public reviews, reader Chairs, Lantern Index themes, and open Circles without creating an account.

04

Take a Chair if you want one

A free account creates a persistent reading home for your cabinet, reviews, Circles, Afterglows, Lantern Notes, recommendations, private journal, and reading identity.

What stays on your device

The original guided-cycle room progress and challenge checklists remain local to the browser you use. They are separate from your Society account unless a future feature explicitly asks permission to sync them.

What belongs to your Society account

When you create a Chair, Society information you intentionally save is stored so it can persist across visits. Each supported contribution uses its own visibility choice: Public, Members, or Private where available.

No pressure system

No leaderboard. No penalty for pausing. Public shelves and conversations exist, but you decide whether your own Chair and contributions join them.
